Yellow Crane Tower
Yellow Crane Tower has stood in some form on the banks of the Yangtze River since 223 AD, making it one of the Four Great Towers of ancient China and a subject of poems by Tang dynasty writers Li Bai and Cui Hao. The current structure, a five-story reconstruction completed in the 1980s after the original burned down in the 1880s, sits slightly inland from its historical riverside site but still offers sweeping views over the Yangtze and the Wuhan skyline from its upper floors. Each level houses murals, calligraphy and exhibits tracing the tower's literary and architectural history, including a mosaic on the first floor depicting the legend of a crane flying away that gives the tower its name. The surrounding park includes the Mao Pavilion and pleasant grounds worth a slow walk beyond just the tower itself.
Wuhan Tianhe International Airport sits on Metro Line 2; ride it toward Hankou/Wuchang and get off at Simenkou & Yellow Crane Tower station, right by the entrance.
From Hankou Railway Station, take Metro Line 2 directly to Simenkou & Yellow Crane Tower station, about 30 minutes.
From Hanyang Bus Station, take Metro Line 3 to a central interchange, transfer to Line 2, and ride to Simenkou & Yellow Crane Tower station.
Hubei Provincial Museum
Hubei Provincial Museum, founded in 1953, holds more than 240,000 artifacts and is best known for the bronze chime bells excavated from the 5th-century-BC tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng, a 65-piece set still capable of producing a full musical scale, with recreated performances held daily. Other treasured pieces include the Sword of Goujian, remarkably well-preserved and still sharp after roughly 2,500 years, and a collection of lacquerware and bamboo slips illuminating the Chu culture that once dominated this region of the Yangtze basin. The museum sits directly on the shore of East Lake, making it easy to pair with a lakeside walk before or after a visit. Its exhibitions on Chu and early Yangtze civilization are considered among the most important archaeological collections in China.
From Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, take Metro Line 2 to Hongshan Square station, transfer to Line 8, and ride toward the East Lake area near the museum.

East Lake Scenic Area
East Lake is the largest lake within any Chinese city, more than five times the size of Hangzhou's famous West Lake, ringed by parks, gardens and scenic areas that together form one of Wuhan's largest green spaces. Moshan Scenic Area, reachable by cable car, and the Wuhan Botanical Garden both sit along its shores, and the lake's cherry blossom garden draws large crowds each spring alongside Wuhan University's more famous blossoms nearby. Boat rides, cycling paths and lakeside walking trails make it a popular half-day or full-day escape from the city center, with different sections of the shoreline offering distinctly different atmospheres, from manicured gardens to quieter wooded paths. It's also considered the traditional birthplace of the Dragon Boat Festival, which the lake still celebrates each June with races.
From Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, take Metro Line 2 to Hongshan Square station, transfer to Line 8, which runs along the lake's edge.

Guiyuan Temple
Guiyuan Temple was founded in 1658 during the early Qing dynasty by two Buddhist monks and remains one of the four great Buddhist temples in Hubei province, with roughly 400 years of continuous worship on the site. Its most striking feature is the Arhat Hall, containing 500 individually sculpted, life-sized statues of Buddhist saints, each with a distinct face and pose, carved over a ten-year period in the 1800s. Visitors traditionally count from a randomly chosen starting statue to find the one corresponding to their age, said to offer a personal fortune or insight. Beyond the Arhat Hall, the temple's courtyards hold a large jade Buddha statue and mature trees that give the grounds a shaded, contemplative feel distinct from Wuhan's busier riverside attractions.
From Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, take Metro Line 2 toward Hankou and transfer as needed toward the Guqin Tai area near the temple.
From Hankou Railway Station, take Metro Line 2 toward the Hanyang district and transfer toward the temple's area near Guqin Tai.
From Hanyang Bus Station, the temple is a relatively short taxi or local bus ride away within the same district.
Wuhan University
Wuhan University, founded in 1893, is consistently ranked among China's most beautiful campuses, its blend of 1930s Chinese-and-Western-style architecture set across wooded hills overlooking East Lake. The campus is best known internationally for its cherry blossoms, planted originally in the 1930s and expanded over the decades, which draw enormous crowds each March and April when the trees along Cherry Blossom Avenue bloom in a dense pink canopy. Beyond blossom season, the campus's Gothic-influenced library, the old astronomical observatory, and the lakeside views make it worth a walk even without the flowers. Because of the crowds during peak bloom, the university has at times required advance ticket reservations for visitors during cherry blossom season specifically, worth checking before planning a spring visit.
From Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, take Metro Line 2 toward Hongshan Square, then continue by taxi or connecting bus toward the university's main gate near Luojiazhuang.
