What PST and WET Actually Are

PST — Pacific Standard Time

Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Vancouver. Standing at UTC-8:00 as written, and the region does change its clocks, so its live offset moves by an hour twice a year. The next change is on Sunday, November 1, 2026, to PST. The Philippines occasionally uses PST for Philippine Standard Time (UTC+8); PHT is the clearer label for that.

California voted in 2018 to move to permanent daylight time, but the change needs an act of Congress and has never happened, so PST is still the winter standard.

WET — Western European Time

Lisbon, Porto, the Canary Islands. Standing at UTC as written, and the region does change its clocks, so its live offset moves by an hour twice a year. The next change is on Sunday, October 25, 2026, to WET.

Portugal moved to Central European Time in 1992 and switched back four years later, after finding that later sunrises hurt more than later sunsets helped.

What This Means in Practice

The date changes mid-working-day

For 1 of the eight hours in a normal PST working day, the equivalent WET time falls on a different calendar date. Anything scheduled in that stretch needs the date checked as well as the time, or a Tuesday call quietly becomes a Wednesday one at the other end.

Both sides change clocks, on different dates

Both regions observe daylight saving but do not switch on the same day, so for a week or two each spring and fall the gap between them is an hour different from the rest of the year. Those short windows are where recurring invitations quietly break.
