What CLT and MT Actually Are
CLT — Chile Standard Time
Santiago, Valparaíso, Concepción. Standing at UTC-4:00 as written, and the region does change its clocks, so its live offset moves by an hour twice a year. The next change is on Saturday, April 3, 2027, to -04. Chile still changes its clocks, moving to CLST (UTC-3) for the southern summer.
Chile is one of very few countries still moving its clocks, and the Magallanes region in the far south stays on UTC-3 permanently while the rest of the country switches.
MT — Mountain Time
Denver, Salt Lake City, Calgary, Edmonton — and Phoenix, which does not change its clocks. Standing at UTC-7:00 as written, and the region does change its clocks, so its live offset moves by an hour twice a year. The next change is on Sunday, November 1, 2026, to MST.
Mountain Time contains the most conspicuous daylight saving exception in North America: Arizona, which has opted out since 1968.
What This Means in Practice
Both sides change clocks, on different dates
Both regions observe daylight saving but do not switch on the same day, so for a week or two each spring and fall the gap between them is an hour different from the rest of the year. Those short windows are where recurring invitations quietly break.
