These are all 11 US federal holidays, with the actual and observed date for each year from 2026 through 2036 — computed directly from the legal rules that define them (5 U.S.C. § 6103), not copied from a calendar that might drift out of date.
How federal holiday dates actually work
Federal holidays fall into two categories. Some are fixed calendar dates: New Year's Day (January 1), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), Veterans Day (November 11), and Christmas Day (December 25). The rest are defined by a specific weekday of a specific month, so their calendar date moves every year: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (3rd Monday in January), Washington's Birthday, commonly known as Presidents Day (3rd Monday in February), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Labor Day (1st Monday in September), Columbus Day (2nd Monday in October), and Thanksgiving (4th Thursday in November).
There's one more wrinkle: when a fixed-date holiday falls on a Saturday, federal offices observe it the preceding Friday. When it falls on a Sunday, they observe it the following Monday. The tables below show the observed date — the one that actually determines when federal offices, banks, and most businesses that follow the federal calendar are closed — with the actual calendar date noted in parentheses whenever the two differ, including the year whenever the observed date falls in a different year than the holiday itself (this happens for New Year's Day a couple of times in this range).
One naming note: Columbus Day is the official federal name, though a number of states and cities now observe the same date as Indigenous Peoples' Day instead, or in addition.

Using this for planning
If you're scheduling international meetings, deadlines, or shipments around US business days, the observed date is what matters — that's the day US offices, banks, and the postal service actually close, regardless of which day the underlying holiday technically falls on. A handful of these (Independence Day 2026, Juneteenth 2027 and 2032, Christmas 2027 and 2032) fall right at the edge of a weekend, so double-checking the observed date rather than assuming the calendar date is worth doing before you commit to a deadline near one of them.
For scheduling around any of these dates with contacts in a different time zone, the time zone converter and meeting planner handle the rest.

Frequently asked questions
What happens when a federal holiday falls on a weekend?
It shifts. When a fixed-date holiday falls on a Saturday, federal offices observe it the preceding Friday. When it falls on a Sunday, they observe it the following Monday. That observed date is the one that determines when federal offices and most businesses following the federal calendar are closed.
When is Independence Day observed in 2026?
Friday, 3 July 2026. The Fourth itself falls on a Saturday that year, so under the weekend rule federal offices observe it the preceding Friday instead. It is one of the dates worth double-checking rather than assuming, since the calendar date and the observed date do not match.
Which federal holidays move dates every year?
Six of the eleven, because they are defined by weekday rather than calendar date: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (third Monday in January), Washington's Birthday (third Monday in February), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Labor Day (first Monday in September), Columbus Day (second Monday in October) and Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November).
Can a holiday be observed in a different year than it falls?
Yes, and it happens twice in this range for New Year's Day. When 1 January lands on a Saturday, the observed day is the preceding Friday — 31 December of the year before. New Year's Day 2028 is observed Friday 31 December 2027, and New Year's Day 2033 is observed Friday 31 December 2032.
